The group is a chance to socialise with other like minded parents and allow your children to play with natural and recycled materials. Of course, there will also be tea, cake and other refreshments available.

We aim to give parents the confidence to believe in themselves and their intuition and follow what feels right for them.

Laura and Dominique will be on hand to give sling advice and demos. They are both slingababy trained babywearing consultants and the group also has 6 peer supporters who volunteer their time to help families with slings too.

APUK Abingdon facilitators, Dominique and Laura, with their children Asa, Nancy and Monty

The Abingdon Real Nappy library will be available for loans and demos. There are kits to suit from newborn to potty training and they will soon be adding some larger kits to the library.

Peer support breastfeeding advice is also available to anyone that needs it.

In the warmer weather, the doors are open and the children can play in the attached play park. Picnics also happen in the play area after the session has finished – weather permitting!

APUK Abingdon Is laid back, friendly little hub with families that come along with children of all ages. There will always be a friendly face, a smile and an ear to listen when you walk in.

No matter what crazy mood my children are in I know that I can go to APUK Abingdon and be greeted with a smile, a delicious slice of cake and lots of friendly people that all empathise with the trials, tribulations and triumphs of being a parent. The variety of activities provided for the children means that my two smalls look forward to going, especially when they are allowed outside in the play area. The sling library is great too and it has been wonderful to be able to tell others about it and the nappy library.

Abingdon APUK was the highlight of my week while I was on maternity leave with my daughter. I have made very close friends through this group. A warm welcome is given whether you’re there for slings, nappies, or just tea and cake. A truly supportive and relaxed group.

Such a lovely group, I was greeted as soon as I walked in by friendly faces. Everyone spoke and I felt very comfortable on being a newbie. I loved the herb play and was certainly a hit with my daughter, who was also keen to launch herself down the slide several times at the outdoor play!! Laura was super helpful with all the sling advice and support, thank you. My only regret is that I didn’t discover you earlier!

When i first started attending i was struggling as a first time mum with a baby who had severe feeding issues and had been in a lot of pain for the first 6-8 weeks of his life. I was unable to breastfeed and was feeling pretty frazzled at the constant crying. It felt like i was permenantly hooked up to a breast pump and i felt more like a stressed and worried cow than a mother. Going to APUK gave me a sense of perspective as i was warmly welcomed and supported, and there was no judgement about how you feed, nappy or clothe your child. They made me see that it doesnt matter how you do it just as long as you do it, and i eventually moved to formula to give myself a break. As a family we all started to thrive, and i will be forever greatful for the kindness shown to me.
They were also super helpful in eventually finding a carrier that my baby liked so we could start exploring off road with our dog, and again i now have a boy who is happy to climb into a carrier and go for a long walk exploring the countryside.
Would really reccomend this group to all.

I went to the group for advice on a sling for my newborn. I was warmly greeted and made to feel very welcome. The advice I received was excellent and both my baby and I love the sling we’ve hired. Thank you!

A very friendly group and brilliant that it is possible to hire a sling to see if it is something you get on with doing. There is a huge range of slings/carriers to try and the peer supporters plus Dominique & Laura have been a great help in selecting a sling and with any queries. And there is always coffee/tea with cake. There is always an activity or two for the older babies/toddlers to get involved with plus toys and mats for the younger babies. In the absence of the children’s centres, groups like these will become vital to a parent and their baby with the additional benefits of the sling & nappy libraries.
