The APUK Story

APUK launched as a non-profit company in January 2012 and we’re on a seemingly unstoppable growth curve – like a toddler who can’t sit still! From our beginnings as a home-made website built at night with sleeping children nearby, to winning a £10k Big Lottery grant to go-pro, we’ve walked hand-in-hand with an amazing community of loving, compassionate and dedicated parents who inspire what we do. Come and join the family!

Michelle McHale
Founder and Director

My other job is…

as a Reconnective Healing Foundational Practitioner having trained in Stockholm, Sweden and I love offering this to children.

What do you most love about mothering…

witnessing my girls independence and uninhibited joy and wonder – and giggles and hugs of course!

Seemingly crazy ambition…

to fund prime-time TV adverts advocating secure attachment and to advise government policy on children’s well-being

In my other life I’d have been a…

sequin-clad backing dancer or a doctor

The goal of parenting is

practicing self-acceptance so my children can be exactly who they need to be

Biggest challenge in life…

standing in my own loving authority

Most people don’t know I:

love ‘5 Rhythms’ unstylised dance sessions – they have kept me going through the toughest of times and helped me rediscover who I am after several years of intense mothering

Attachment Parenting is…

a label, and also an excellent signpost for directing people to the support they need

Michael Brown
Director & Coach

My other job is…

as a role player/facilitator helping medical students enhance their communication skills and develop a more empathic approach to patients

Most surprising thing about parenting…

that despite a few mistakes along the way my children have grown to be true to themselves and gorgeous human beings

Scariest parenting moment…

rushing my dehydrated 2-week old son to hospital after inadequate breastfeeding support

In my other life I’d have been…

the rhythm guitarist with the Rolling Stones or a contemporary dancer.

The best thing about coaching…

is seeing my clients make self-empowering choices that transform their lives

Biggest challenge in life…

is to let go of any expectations of who I think my children should be

Most people don’t know I

love working with wood and can light a fire with just a spark. I’m a rough & tumble pro!

Attachment Parenting is…

something I practiced with my 3 boys without knowing it had a name
